Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – One of many things I love about living in Pelican Bay is walking the boardwalk and berm to the beach.  Normally my husband and I head to the North beach as it is closer to us.  This summer found us using the South beach as the North beach is being remodeled.  Walking down the berm and boardwalk to the South beach provided just as many wildlife sightings as the North Beach.

Last week I snapped a picture of this critter.

I have no idea what type of lizard this is but its color was so bright against the tree it caught my eye. Do you know the name of this creature?

More and more car carriers are showing up on Pelican Bay Blvd. This fall may prove to be a busy one. I drove by Publix in the Market Place at Pelican Bay this afternoon and was astounded by the number of cars in the parking lot.

If you are on your way back to Pelican Bay, the weather has been outstanding the past few days. There has been very little humidity and not a cloud in the sky.  Don and I enjoyed appetizers at the Sandbar restaurant the other night and snapped this sunset photo.

Yesterday morning, my neighbor, sent me this picture of the newly dredged Clam Pass. As you can see, Clam Pass has filled with sand again.

Clam Pass in Collier County fills with sand again.

Clam Pass in Collier County fills with sand again.

An article in today’s Naples Daily News discussed the sand refilling the pass and the need for more dredging http://bit.ly/ZDJeGn

On my recent walks to the beach with my husband, we’ve noticed some wave activity.  I wonder if this wave action was part of the cause why the pass filled in again.  In any case, I’ll keep you posted.

After posting the article below about the beach erosion where Clam Pass meets the Sandbar beach in Pelican Bay in Naples, FL, I decided to go down there to snap a quick video.  I live on the Northern end of Pelican Bay and frequent the Sandpiper Restaurant as it is closer to my condo.  I hadn’t been down to the South beach pavilion in at least a year.  Of course I totally forgot the South boardwalk is closed for restoration until November 1st.

My next decision was to go the Clam Pass Park beach area and film looking North at  the Sandbar Beach.  I then realized that I didn’t have a Collier County beach parking sticker.  Since I live in Pelican Bay, it is very rarely that I travel to another beach.  I picked up my sticker at Veteran’s Park off Immokalee.  This sticker is free to all Collier County residents with proof of residency.  I showed my driver’s license and vehicle registration and was out of the office in just a matter of minutes with my parking sticker.  Without the parking sticker, I would have paid $8.00 for parking.

The Clam Pass park has a set up similar to Pelican Bay where a tram travels from the parking lot on a boardwalk through the mangroves to the beach.  There is a beach pavilion there with restrooms and a concession stand.

Here’s the video I shot of the erosion near the Sandbar Beach in Pelican Bay.  You’ll note the concrete erosion barriers the county has put in place.

Here’s a few still shots of the area. In this photo you can see the stumps of old trees.

Hopefully Collier County & the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers will come up with a way to stop this erosion.  When my brother James visits me from Chicago, he loves to fish in this area.  I wonder how the erosion will affect his fishing.
