Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – It was a gorgeous spring day at the beach in Pelican Bay yesterday. How was the weather in your area?  My sister from Chicago sent me a photo of the lake effect snow she experienced yesterday morning. Sandpiper Beach Sunset in Pelican Bay

Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – This morning’s e-mail found a note from my brother in Chicagoland. He took great delight in sending me a video of the snow Chicago received yesterday. As siblings enjoy teasing one another (at least mine do) I couldn’t wait to get down to the Sandpiper tonight to film a sunset to e-mail my brother. Here’s the result. Do you think my brother will like it?

One of the wonderful things about living in Pelican Bay is being able to walk down to the beach to see the sunset. If you owned in Pelican Bay, you could enjoy sunsets on the beach too.

Waiting for Rain to Stop

Sun Safety App

Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – Part of the allure of living in Pelican Bay is our access to the beach.  Summertime brings warm water to the Gulf of Mexico. Many full-time Pelican Bay residents LOVE this time of year because the beach is less crowded than season and the Gulf water is so pleasant.

Since I live in sunshine year round, I always take pains to protect myself from too much exposure to the sun…..especially when I go to the beach.  I, along with several friends of mine, can be seen at the Sandpiper Beach floating in the water wearing broad-brimmed hats.  These hats may not be too stylish; however they do protect our faces from the sun.

I recently found a nifty free app for my Android phone that I would like to share.  You can find it in the app store under UV US. Here’s what the app looks like:

This is a really neat application for your phone or tablet that will:

  • Set your city
  • Give you the current weather and UV index for the time of day
  • Let’s you enter your skin type and the SPF you are wearing so it can calculate how long it would take you to burn under current UV conditions
  • Has timer that will count down the minutes until you burn
  • Gives all sorts of sun protection tips

Have issues with children putting on sunscreen?  I can see how using this app can make sunscreen application a fun event for kids.  Depending on their age, they could enter their information and start the timer for a countdown of when they need to put on more sunscreen.

I hope you have some fun with this app and remember to stay safe in the sun.

Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – On my walk down to the Sandpiper Beach in Pelican Bay yesterday afternoon, I was amazed at all the families enjoying the beach.  Just take a look at all the shoes left on the ramp leading to the beach!

Easter Weekend in Pelican Bay

Where did you spend your weekend?

In a few short weeks, many of our residents will head back to their Northern homes and our beach will look deserted.  Watching our Northern residents leave is a bitter-sweet experience for me.  I’ll miss my Northern friends but I will enjoy being able to go to a restaurant without waiting for a table.

If you are thinking of buying a home or condo in Pelican Bay, try to plan a trip here in April or May.  This is a beautiful time of year and it is less crowded.  You’ll also have less competition for homes. I’d love to show you the benefits of owning in Pelican Bay!

FYI – For those of you who following the Clam Pass dredging saga, equipment was set up in Clam Pass to start dredging again on Friday.

Busy Week in Pelican Bay

Traditionally Easter week is a busy one in Pelican Bay. Last evening my husband Don and I drove to the Sandpiper Parking lot to park and walk down to the beach. Imagine our surprise when we saw the Sandpiper Parking lot almost filled!  People had parked in all sorts of inventive ways.  Don and I had arrived at the parking lot just as people were leaving the beach, so there were a few empty parking spaces.

Our tram drivers were working to accommodate all the residents and guests leaving the beach as well as those arriving to go to the beach.  All the trams that passed us were packed. Our tram system in Pelican Bay is a wonderful plus for our unique beach community.  Kudos to our tram drivers for the great job they do!

Even though it was a cloudy evening, Don and I decided to drive to the Sandpiper Parking lot and walk tonight.  Even a cloudy evening didn't stop residents from coming to the beach in Pelican Bay!

Not even a cloudy evening stopped residents from enjoying the Sandpiper beach. The restaurant was crowded as well as the bar area.  I find it delightful to see so many families enjoying our facilities.  On our walk back to the parking lot, I was able to introduce some children to our local Pelican Bay celebrity, the screech-owl that resides in the hollow space in a tree near the boardwalk .  It was a delight to see how much they enjoyed looking at the owl.

Pelican Bay is a wonderful place to live and a great place to experience the nature that surrounds us.  Walking along the berm and boardwalk in Pelican Bay I’ve seen alligators, otters, and all sorts of birds!  The kids always get a tremendous kick out of seeing the alligators.  If you are looking for a special community to call home, look no further, Pelican Bay in Naples FL is waiting for you and I’d be delight to help you find a home!

Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – Last evening, after work,  a good friend and I headed to the Sandpiper beach restaurant in Pelican Bay to enjoy sunset.  WOW!  The restaurant and bar areas were packed with people.  One of the things I enjoy about living in Pelican Bay is being able to tram or walk down to the beach for sunset. It never ceases to amazes me how people gather together to for sunset.  I snapped these photos to share with you.
