Pelican Bay – Naples, FL – On my walk down to the Sandpiper Beach in Pelican Bay yesterday afternoon, I was amazed at all the families enjoying the beach.  Just take a look at all the shoes left on the ramp leading to the beach!

View looking South. It almost looks as if there are umbrellas down to the Sandbar Beach, doesn’t it?

Easter Weekend in Pelican Bay

Where did you spend your weekend?

In a few short weeks, many of our residents will head back to their Northern homes and our beach will look deserted.  Watching our Northern residents leave is a bitter-sweet experience for me.  I’ll miss my Northern friends but I will enjoy being able to go to a restaurant without waiting for a table.

If you are thinking of buying a home or condo in Pelican Bay, try to plan a trip here in April or May.  This is a beautiful time of year and it is less crowded.  You’ll also have less competition for homes. I’d love to show you the benefits of owning in Pelican Bay!

FYI – For those of you who following the Clam Pass dredging saga, equipment was set up in Clam Pass to start dredging again on Friday.

Yesterday morning, my neighbor, sent me this picture of the newly dredged Clam Pass. As you can see, Clam Pass has filled with sand again.

An article in today’s Naples Daily News discussed the sand refilling the pass and the need for more dredging http://bit.ly/ZDJeGn

On my recent walks to the beach with my husband, we’ve noticed some wave activity.  I wonder if this wave action was part of the cause why the pass filled in again.  In any case, I’ll keep you posted.

Pelican Bay – Naples,FL – Over the last couple of weeks, Clam Pass has been in the news.  There has been a great deal of discussion about when dredging will begin.  Local residents and visitors took matters….and shovels into their own hands digging out Clam Pass.  Here’s the latest update from the Naples Daily News:

http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2013/jan/09/clam-pass-talk-leads-to-finger-pointing-at/

The mangrove forest in Pelican Bay depends on brackish water. As a Pelican Bay resident, I have enjoyed my tram ride to the beach through the mangroves. There are concerns that if Clam Pass isn’t dredged soon enough, it the lack of brackish water could effect the mangroves. Hopefully all the issues involved in obtaining the permits for dredging will soon be resolved.

Season is in full swing!  Last Saturday night my husband Don, my brother Patrick and I went over to the Mercato for dinner.  We decided to try the new Mexican restaurant, Masa.  My snapper Veracruz was excellent, however we did have to wait 45 minutes for a table. As we sat there waiting, I remembered why we usually don’t go out to eat in season.

I have noticed an uptick in sales between 500K – 1M in Pelican Bay from 12/1/2012 – today. Out of the 27 sales, 12 were between 500k-1M.  This coming season may see more sales in this price range than last year.

After posting the article below about the beach erosion where Clam Pass meets the Sandbar beach in Pelican Bay in Naples, FL, I decided to go down there to snap a quick video.  I live on the Northern end of Pelican Bay and frequent the Sandpiper Restaurant as it is closer to my condo.  I hadn’t been down to the South beach pavilion in at least a year.  Of course I totally forgot the South boardwalk is closed for restoration until November 1st.

My next decision was to go the Clam Pass Park beach area and film looking North at  the Sandbar Beach.  I then realized that I didn’t have a Collier County beach parking sticker.  Since I live in Pelican Bay, it is very rarely that I travel to another beach.  I picked up my sticker at Veteran’s Park off Immokalee.  This sticker is free to all Collier County residents with proof of residency.  I showed my driver’s license and vehicle registration and was out of the office in just a matter of minutes with my parking sticker.  Without the parking sticker, I would have paid $8.00 for parking.

The Clam Pass park has a set up similar to Pelican Bay where a tram travels from the parking lot on a boardwalk through the mangroves to the beach.  There is a beach pavilion there with restrooms and a concession stand.

Here’s the video I shot of the erosion near the Sandbar Beach in Pelican Bay.  You’ll note the concrete erosion barriers the county has put in place.

Here’s a few still shots of the area. In this photo you can see the stumps of old trees.

Hopefully Collier County & the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers will come up with a way to stop this erosion.  When my brother James visits me from Chicago, he loves to fish in this area.  I wonder how the erosion will affect his fishing.
